Participation Requirements

Jefferson Christian Academy recognizes the importance that participation in competitive sports can have on a child’s spiritual and physical growth. Playing sports teaches young men and women the value of teamwork and the importance of modeling Christ like behavior in all areas of their lives.

JCA strives to produce competitive athletic teams, but also endeavors to make sure every child that wants to play has the opportunity to do so, given they are making satisfactory academic progress in their classes. We believe that success in the classroom must come first, and that better students really do make better athletes.

As such, JCA has established the following policies in regards to athletic participation in any sport or sporting activity:

Beginning with the 20011-12 school year, students in all grades must have at least a C-average in every class for the grading period in order to play sports. If a student does not meet this requirement, the student will be ineligible to play sports until the end of the following grading period, at which time the student’s grades will be re-evaluated to determine if they meet the policy.

For example, when grades come out at the end of the first 45 day grading period, if a student has less than a C- average in any class, he/she will be ineligible to participate in any sporting activity until the end of the next grading period. At the end of the next grading period, if the student’s average is at least a C- in every class the student will regain eligibility immediately.  If the student’s average is still less than a C- in any class the student will remain ineligible until the end of the next grading period.

This athletic participation policy is a “minimum” standard set for all students. Individual coaches could require a higher standard for participation in their sport if requested by the coach and approved by the Board.
